Toothbrush Pollution

In your lifetime, you will throw away about 320 plastic toothbrushes.  About 250 of them will end up in the ocean.

Who am I ?

Adeline

My name is Adeline. I am a 3rd grade student at the best school in the whole world - Anna Maria Elementary, in Florida.  I love animals, dragons, trees, flowers, volcanoes, snow and especially the ocean and everything in it.  It makes me really sad and upset when I see any of these lovely things being trashed or harmed.

My parents and I recently attended a talk given by Philippe Cousteau. If you do not know who he is, you should really Google him.  His talk was titled “Ocean of Hope” and it was about all sorts of environmental problems. I did not understand everything that Mr. Cousteau said that night. But I remember and understood one thing : We are all connected. What we do to the environment in one part of the world, affects the environment in other parts of the world.  It is our responsibility to set an example and hopefully others will follow. His talk made me feel very powerful - that I could be like Spiderman in some way saving the world  …

“With great power comes great responsibility” - (Spiderman).

I decided that night that the earth is my responsibility too. I want to set an example and inspire other kids to protect the earth and the oceans that we all love.  I told my mom about this desire in my heart. She said that one kid alone cannot save the earth. She’s probably right – I cannot do it by myself. I am not Spiderman. But a large number of kids taking up responsibility together, can be powerful and do something great.  See, with great power comes great responsibility … but I believe the reverse is even better :

With great responsibility, comes great power ! - (Adeline)

I want to help Earth. What about you ?
